Projects based learning in Kindergarten - 2750 Words
Projects based learning in Kindergarten (Essay Sample) Content: Projects based learning in Kindergarten Name: Course: Instructor: Date: Project One: Story of my Family Core competencies: communication, positive personal and cultural identity According to Topal (2013), Families are the functional units of any society and as a result, play a crucial role in the cognitive growth and development of any given child. Once a child can fully understand and identify him/herself with his or her family, he will create sufficient rapport to initiate great interactions with all the family members and hence aid in the overall cognitive development. Similarly, such an understanding will help the child comprehend and internalize the identity of his or her family; characteristics that are unique and only associated with his family and not any other. Hence, the core competence is achieved in the sense that a child that understands his family composition, culture, traditions and behavior will freely interact and communicate. This project will also add up in helping children appreciate the diverse cultures and family histories of colleagues within their class. Although students are encouraged to interact in class, there are higher chances that their interaction might not extend beyond academic matters. As a result, therefore, many of them might not be aware of their colleagueà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s family histories, composition or even general background. This project will thus help open up conversations, new friendships and even social groupings amongst students once they learn of their friendsà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢ stories, and thus social interaction and development. The last bit of this project requires students to make presentations using a visual aid such as posters in front of their parents and classmates. Such presentations require high levels of confidence and self-believe which will be slowly built in the course of the project. (MacDonell, 2007). An emphasis of this project is that although students might be helped in designing questions to solicit information on their family history, each of them will be required to administer the questionnaire personally. The benefit of this is that it will help students gain confidence to express themselves without fear or contradiction so as to get the most accurate information from whichever informant they choose. The big assumption is that if the students can successfully seek and obtain the required information, they will have no trouble presenting the same before other people. The overall success of this project about the achievement of its core objectives will be evaluated basing on studentsà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢ behavior before, during and after the whole exercise. For instance, if the students can obtain accurate information and confidently present the same, then the project will be termed a success. If a large number of them cannot explain their posters or lack confidence to stand before people, then the project will not have achieved its goals. Project Two: Shapes in natural world Big idea: Objects have attributes that can be described, measured, and compared This project revolves around the most immediate environment that surrounds kindergarten students. One thing about children in this age bracket is that they are inquisitive and eager to learn. They also possess a sharp memory in the sense that they rarely forget things they are told, especially things said by someone they have confidence such as older siblings, parents or teachers. Similarly, shapes constitute almost each and every object in nature. In fact, all objects are described concerning shape and size. Introducing kindergarten students at this age will help them master the concept of shapes at an early age, a concept that will stick in their minds as they grow. Furthermore, they will slowly learn how to describe objects regarding shapes and sizes thus improving their ability to describe objects around them. The concept of 2D and 3D is meant to enhance their description of shapes further. It is expected that the studentsà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢ ability to memorize and recall taught concepts will be exploited to help them understand the differences between 2D and 3D shapes. Although it might be early to introduce the concept of dimensional shapes to kindergarten students, it is assumed that the entire idea of shapes is best taught when handled at once rather than teaching it in bits. For instance, it might be hard, at a later stage, to introduce terms such as cubes and cuboids when all students know are rectangles and squares. Once the students can successfully separate and group 2D and 3D objects, then they will be required to identify the same from different drawings and pictures to ensure that they fully understand the differences. The idea of the park has been incorporated into the project to enhance curiosity. Once the students learn that they are to visit a new locality, they will develop an eagerness to know where they are going, what they might find there and more so the new things they are likely to find there. The concept of curiosity and adventure will, therefore, prepare the students psychologically and put them in a state of anticipation to learn new things. The second trip to the park will be so as to test the studentsà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢ ability to recall previous concepts taught. If the students mastered the different types of shapes during the first visit, then they will quickly identify and name the various shapes in the park. The primary objectives of this project will be to foster critical thinking and communication skills amongst students. Critical thinking will come in when students will e required to think of the differences between shapes and thus recall the correct name of the various objects. Communication, on the other hand, will be enhanced through the emphasis on students to describe their most immediate environment regarding shapes. A collection of shapes for use by kindergarten students Source: /wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Capture.jpg Project Three: Design our Christmas Classroom Big idea: People create art to express who they are as individuals and community As children grow up, they tend to associate Christmas with all sorts of happiness and celebration; everyone is always happy and excited. This design project, therefore, aims to capitalize on the general depiction of Christmas in society to bring out the creativity in students. The initial part of the project will, therefore, be creating a Christmas mood and letting students list all sorts of activities that take place during Christmas. Each student, depending on his or her background, has a unique experience about Christmas which he or she would wish to share. The presumption here is that during the previous projects, students would have learned how to communicate efficiently and will, therefore, find no difficulties in sharing their experiences. The various experiences from different students are what will create our pool of ideas for decorating our design project. All the students will jointly do the decoration of the classroom without any restrictions. All the students will have freedom to express their feelings and adjust the beauty of the room depending on what they feel about Christmas. However, the major challenge will be that for every suggestion one makes, he or she must explain its relation to Christmas. Although the whole exercise might look like a fun activity, it will be a valuable learning forum since students will have chances to discover what their friends think of Christmas hence broadening their experiences and knowledge on the broad concept of Christmas. Most students have bright ideas but fear speaking out hence allowing them to practically execute their thoughts might increase their confidence and subsequently help them to open up. Similarly, the decoration exercise might just be another forum to help identify other creative talents from students. Personal interaction and integration will also be of great concern in the execution of this project. As indicated in the introductory remarks, all our activities will be done by a team and not individually. There are certain attributes that determine the effectiveness of a team and these will be what the project will inherently seek to achieve. The project will thus help evaluate the studentsà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢ ability to work in teams and successfully realize their objectives as intended. In an ideal situation, students have already formed groups to which they would like to work in. Although such groups are a welcome idea, this project will disrupt such groupings and have students placed together with entirely new friends so as to evaluate their ability to integrate and interact with others. The Romantic poets sought to write epics that incorporated new philosophies, ideals, and literary trends, while also parodying, satirizing and deconstructing the epic poem itself. Rather than merely extend the epic tradition, several Romantic poets subverted the characteristics and tropes attributed to epic poetry, creating an interesting revision of the epic. Two seminal works of Romantic poetry that adequately showcase the revision of epic tradition are William Wordsworthââ¬â¢s introspective epic The Prelude and Lord Byronââ¬â¢s biting epic satire Don Juan. Incorporating either introspection and reflection or irony and satire, both of these works incorporate themes from the epic tradition while also subverting its significant aspects,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦How both Wordsworth and Byron transgress and subvert these themes, particularly the heroic ideal, not only separates Romantic epic poetry from classical epic poetry and epic tradition, but this revision results in the creation of a new tradition. Wordsworth is known for his introspection, often writing about feelings and emotions, mortality and nature. Wordsworthââ¬â¢s The Prelude is a seminal work. The poem is about the growth of the poetââ¬â¢s mind. It is autobiographical and deals with different periods of Wordsworthââ¬â¢s life, such as his childhood, his time at Cambridge and his residence in France. The poem features Wordsworth reflecting on his experiences and feelings. The poem acts as a look into how he views himself as a poet. In The Politics of the Epic: Wordsworth, Byron, and the Romantic Redefinition of Heroism, author Paul Cantor contends that despite the use of epic writing, the poem itself is vastly different from the epic. ââ¬Å"It is written in an elevated blank verse that often has a Miltonic ring, it contains epic diction and epic similes, and it shows many other signs of Wordsworth s attempt to work within the established epic tradition. But if one looks at the beginning of the poem, where the ep ic poet traditionally invokes his Muse, one can see how radically Wordsworth differs from his predecessorâ⬠(Cantor, 377). The poem, Miltonic in its style and diction, does seem to mimic the Miltonic epic style, at least somewhat. Juanââ¬â¢s adventures pull him from situation to situation across the globe. Juan gets into shipwrecks, mixed up in harems while presenting as a woman and involved in wars. Professional Development Management Strategy
Question: Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning. Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts could be encouraged. Evaluate the benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organisation. Evaluate own current skills and competencies against professional standards and organisational objectives. Identify own development needs and the activities required to meet them. Identify development opportunities to meet current and future defined needs. Devise a personal and professional development plan based on identified needs. Discuss the processes and activities required to implement the development plan. Undertake and document development activities as planned. Reflect critically on own learning against original aims and objectives set in the development plan. Update the development plan based on feedback and evaluation. Select solutions to work-based problems. Communicate in a variety of styles and appropriate manner at various levels. Evaluate and use effective time management strategies.? Answer: An individual can take up different approaches to filling their desire of self-managed learning. Three types of approaches for self-managed learning are: The internet as a learning source: With technological advancement, gathering knowledge on any information from the internet source has become a very common way of learning. Information is available at the click of a button (Bayram, 2007). The internet has a pool of journals, e-books, websites and newspaper. Learning never ends with the use of the internet. Mentoring as a method of learning: The whole process of mentoring involves the learner and mentor. In this process, the mentor acts as a guide rather than a teacher and the learner gains knowledge of different professional aspects of life (Dià az-Maggioli, 2004). Learning through Research: Research helps in self-learning. Research by a student enables him to learn about the topic assigned by the teacher (Holmes, 2002). The benefits of individual self-managed learning are Gaining self-awareness. A Strong relationship can be built. Strong sense of understanding. Meeting the challenges boldly. Dealing with ambiguous situations. Knowing the learning method. The benefits of Organisational self-managed learning: Work performance is improved. Motivation among the employer and employees. A better understanding of business. New ideas can be introduced. The manager also learns which in turn helps in gaining the role of a better manager. The industry where I want to build my career in is the Analytics domain. The skills that I possess are not sufficient for me to flourish in this sector. Currently the skills that I have are basic computer skills like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint , Excel, research skills, quality presentation skills and note- taking skills (Johnston-Parsons, 2000). Researchers predict that there would be a huge requirement of data analyst in future. To enter the analytics industry, an adequate knowledge of mathematics and statistics is required. Analytical tools like SAS and R will help me get the necessary knowledge in the industry. Knowledge related to some programming language like Python, SQL coding and Hadoop will help me enhance my skills. There is also the requirement of non-technical skills like communication, business acumen, etc (Le, Donnellan and Conger, 2013). While formulating the goals, a proper routine is a must. The first step is to decide what things that are needed to achieve the goals. Goals are to be categorised according to its importance. A realistic schedule must be planned to achieve the goal. Time management strategy like creating a to do list to perform the actions before the start of each week help saves time (OBrien and Jones, 2014). Sufficient amount of time is to be spent on reading books that will help gather knowledge on analytics industry (Rhoton and Shane, 2001). The skills that I possess may hold both strength and weaknesses. The strength in me is research skills, basic computer skills, communication skills, etc. The weaknesses that I have are the lack of knowledge related to programming language and lack of industry experience. The opportunity that I would get is to learn more statistical packages. The threat in the industry that I might face is the failure to predict the project results. To carry out the development activities, a proper log must be created so that the learning process is successful. The goals that are to be made should be considered according to our career domain and should not be made considering the interests of the others. The target to enter the industry of analytics should be properly defined so that it is conveniently achieved. This can be the toughest part when structuring the log (Semadeni, 2009). The plans must be chosen so that it makes us happy and also benefit the loved ones. Some questions must be asked to our self so that we get a proper direction of life. The plan of action must be divided into three tiers. In the first tier, the things that are important are kept. The second tier should contain the things that come naturally and in the third tier we have the goal that does not matter. Technical skills like R and SAS can be learnt from any private institute or a diploma course can be learnt from a college. These skills provide some essence of the type of career we wish to take up in future. A solid knowledge on statistics is required. Statistics coaching classes in the weekend will help gain knowledge in statistics. I have started to learn basic statistics by reading books and journals and also working on some critical problems (Shiner, 2009). I have enrolled in an institute to gain knowledge in programming languages. Feed backs from the teachers help me to motivate towards the subject. They have evaluated my work and really appreciated. A proper time management strategy will help me to achieve success in my development plan. Every task must be scheduled before hand. A big task must be divided into sub-parts so that results may be achieved quickly. Short breaks in the routine will help in reducing excessive overload. A planner will help in prioritising the task and allocating time to the tasks. To achieve M2: To achieve progress in the development plan, motivational feedbacks from the mentors and the peers is very necessary. The plan that is made for the personal development must have the approval of supervisors and also coordination from different units. The coach who teaches the necessary skills must help in inculcating the seed of eagerness. This will help our career to flourish. Learning from likeminded friends will sharpen our skills. The group study will help in knowing the subject matter to the core and also help in clearing the doubts that we do not know how to solve. Technical needs to be sharpened so that corporate company can easily absorb me (Simanowitz and Pearce, 2003). Technical skills help us to become job ready. Training in data analytics tool is helping me progress against my development plan. Time management is the way of doing everything priority wise as per a definite scheduling. As per my development plan, the scheduling of things are not done category or priority wise. I should make my decisions more organised. Planning schedule and noting them down in calendars or diaries will help to save precious amount of time. To achieve D1: Time management strategy has failed for me many times so I should focus on this area. Proper time should be allotted to tasks and should be completed within the time frame. The strengths that I possess are research skills; communication skills. To ensures that skills remain in their sheen, genuine steps are needed. The weakness that I have is the lack of analytical skills. I am working on that to develop success in my lifelong learning. There was a conflict regarding the work to be shared by the co-workers. The manager resolved the situation by dividing the task. A project in the workplace failed due to negligence by the worker. I rectified the flaws using necessary skills. I talked to the team members to solve the problem. A severe conflict has taken place that led me to call my relative working in the police force. A PowerPoint presentation on economics related topic helped me brush my communication skills. I submitted an email report to the principle for grant of leave. To achieve M3: A proper structure is to be planned before resolving any conflict. The problems that may arise are a) conflict regarding share of work. b) Negligence of team members performance c) Taking the negligence of a team member on one's shoulder. Problems can be resolved by a) Conflicts should be solved at the time it begins and not dragged in the later period. b) Asking the person politely on the situation that made him angry. c) Clearing out the problem by should be done through face to face interaction. To achieve D2: Line managers in an organization looks into whether the employees can communicate freely with the employees. With this, I gained confidence in my communication skills. I was also encouraged by the manager on the way I presented any topic or communicated with my colleagues. A report to the Line Manager: Subject: Ways to encourage lifelong learning. Individuals exchange views through the seminars and conferences. This helps the candidate to learn new things. The internet is a source where the candidate can learn vast knowledge. For current and future development, there should be an encouragement of continuous learning by the line manager. To achieve D3: Conclusion: From my approach, I am required to perform a proper time management strategy. Links: The approaches that I have followed are not with respect to the standard practices of CIPD. The CIPD body looks into the development of the workers in the organization. Recommendations: The activities that we learn must be able to fulfil the future development needs. Skills can also be learnt through self managed learning programmes. References Bayram, L. (2007). Social Aspects of Information Technology
Executive Summary This is part one of a report that was prepared with reference to week eight of the activity that involved creating a social network. The activity was centered on the marketing of a clothing fashion brand through a group page created on Facebook. This report details the step-by-step procedure of creating the social network on Facebook, the experience of the group during the social networking process and the eventual outcome of the activity.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Social Aspects of Information Technology specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Creating a Social Network We followed a systematic schedule in the creation of a social network for part one of the report. The activities of the group began in week 2 with the brainstorming of ideas for the search and choice of a brand that we wanted to promote through the use of a social media platform. The group had only one member at this point. In we ek three, the activities of the group intensified as the group membership increased to three people. We narrowed down the ideas we generated during our brainstorming phase of the activity by choosing our preferred brand and a social networking platform. We specifically settled on Kalimah Brand as our preferred brand and Facebook as our preferred social networking website. The Procedure and Outcome of the Social Networking Activity Kalimah Brand is a prolific clothing line that is based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The brand specializes in the manufacture and distribution of top notch fashion clothing that caters for the needs of customers across the market demographics. Our choice of Kalimah Brand was primarily informed by the companyââ¬â¢s online presence. The brand operates at the Kalimah e-store through which it distributes its vibrant fashion and clothing varieties. We reckoned that this would make it easier for us to integrate and synergize the online visibility of the Kalimah e -store with our interactions and our target customers on our Facebook page. The choice of Facebook being our preferred social media platform, was influenced by the popularity and end-user friendly characteristics of Facebook in comparison to other social media platforms such as Twitter and Myspace. We sufficiently established that Facebook would guarantee easy integration between our target individual clothing items of the Kalimah Brand, the Kalimah e-store, and our group page. Moreover, we recognized that the use of Facebook among the population is more widespread in Saudi Arabia compared to the other social media networks. As such, this provided the group with a great potential to reach out as many customers as possible while creating a huge fan base for our groupââ¬â¢s discussion board and forum.Advertising Looking for report on it? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More In week four, our activities had boiled down to the actua l social media marketing on Facebook. We modified our group page and added a fan page to the main group page so as the solicit feedback from our followers. We created different demographic categories that mainly included ââ¬Å"Womenâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Menâ⬠for our targeted marketing of products. We then proceeded to upload 15 pictures for the ââ¬Å"Womenâ⬠category. Our membership increased to five people with the addition of a new group member ââ¬Å"Mehdiâ⬠having been the hallmark activity of the week. The quality of our discussion forum similarly improved tremendously. Our fan page particularly contributed towards creating a feedback-oriented discussion forum for our group page. Week five saw our membership increase to eight with the upload of 20 pictures for the ââ¬Å"Menâ⬠category of our brandââ¬â¢s products having taken the center stage. Our activities went a notch higher in week six when we promoted ladiesââ¬â¢ t-shirts for summer. Our Facebook group page became more active following the growth of our membership to 13 people. We were particularly impressed by the response of customers on our Facebook page as many people began to inquire about the store manufacturer, the location of the store, and delivery methods for products. By week seven, our membership had doubled to 26 people and the number of inquiries about our brandââ¬â¢s products continued to increase. Conclusion The success of our group was largely motivated by the high quality standards of clothes from the Kalimah Brand. It was easy to sell these products because their photographs were evidently appealing encouraging prospective customers to seek for more information. The ease of feedback communication was the biggest advantage of social media networking that we experienced during this group activity. IS HRM A SPECIALIST ROLE, OR SHOULD IT AND CAN IT BE LEFT TO THE LINE Essay
IS HRM A SPECIALIST ROLE, OR SHOULD IT AND CAN IT BE LEFT TO THE LINE MANAGER - Essay Example The human resource manager is a very vital part of the company he follows and keeps updates on all aspects of a company and its staff right from the time they apply for a job till the time they get hired. They keep checks on any and all training and development that is necessary and make all necessary amendments. The question these days has come about regarding the necessity of human resource departments and managers. And the similar curiosity as to whether there is actual need for a separate department or not It is also common wondering whether the role of the human resource manager is a specialist role or can it and should it be fulfilled by a line manager. Human resource is a very vital part of all organizations. They are responsible for the efficient and effective management of the Human capital. The main functions of Human resource managers are tracking the data points of each and every employee and staff member. Along with tasks such as selection, placement payroll and evaluati on. In order to make a reduction in the excessive work load of these activities organizations started to employ individuals to handle these specific areas and thus there came the human resource departments. And these days with technology at its peak these tasks are also being taken care of by automated computer based programs. Making it possible for the work of three separate human resource managers to be done by one that too with the click of a mouse key. This is the reason that the questions stated earlier regarding the need for HR departments have started coming up. In an attempt to answer the above stated questions, I would first like to state that Human resource management is a full department which comprises of not one but several individuals all known and Human resource managers. Human resource managers are all trained and equipped with knowledge in various fields and each possess specialized training in a certain field or industry and together they take care of training areas such as: MENTORING: That is a process of training and guiding new staff members by either doing it personally or assigning new members and potential candidates to already existing staff members in order to let them gain on the job learning and training. This is also a form of training where individuals receive hands on training and experience in their respective fields, before they are sent to take over their respective duties. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Human resource departments and managers are responsible providing opportunities of professional growth and development for all existing staff members. This is done by providing new courses and seminars along with workshops so that staff members can be kept up to date with changing trends in their respective fields. TALENT IDENTIFICATION AND MANAGEMENT: This is a very important area in human resource management. This is an aspect which allows the opportunity of hiring well rounded and highly motivated employees. This aspect requires the human resource manager being able to identify and see exactly where and what other talents are possessed by the various hired staff members and how they can be used and employed to achieve the maximum amount of employee output and company benefit. SKILL MANAGEMENT & PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT: Skill management and talent management are interlinked qualities and it is the responsibility of all human resource ma
